The Canisius College rowing team will compete at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas, on Saturday and Sunday, in an event that will be shown live on the Longhorn Network, marking the first television appearance in program history.
Canisius is finishing up its spring training trip to Texas, which began with the SMU Invite last Saturday. The Griffs first strokes of the season came against Creighton, and they then rowed against the host Mustangs in the afternoon.
The Griffs fell to both teams, but have since spent the past week training in Dallas leading up to the Longhorn, getting some of their first time on the water this season.
The Blue and Gold will open the event against national power Yale, and could also see the likes of Oklahoma, Kansas St., Tulsa, UCF, San Diego, and host Texas over the course of the weekend.
The races will be held at Lady Bird Lake in Austin, with two head-to-head lanes 2,000-meters long.
The Canisius Varsity Four will be the first in the water at 9:20 a.m., with the Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Eight taking the water 10 and 20 minutes later respectively.
