A veteran assistant coach who has made numerous stops at schools across the country, Mike Mennenga is in his second season on head coach Jim Baron's coaching staff at Canisius. Mennenga returned to the college coaching ranks in 2012-13 after serving as Co-Director of the Nike Elite Youth Basketball program and the CIA Bounce Program in Toronto and Buffalo. Prior to returning to the college coaching ranks, he also provided his talents and basketball knowledge as a color analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet in Buffalo and as a college basketball contributor to the FAN Radio Network in Toronto.

At Canisius, Mennenga works with the team's backcourt players and has been instrumental in getting the Canisius men's basketball program more active in the local community through a series of youth basketball clinics. He is the point person on the Canisius staff in running the summer team camps on campus, while also scouting future opponents and recuiting for the Griffs.

A native of Rantoul, Ill., he spent one year on the Illinois-Chicago coaching staff in 2010-11, where he helped with player development, opponent scouting and recruiting. During the 2009-10 year, Mennenga was on staff at Providence College under former head coach Keno Davis, where he served as the Friars' Director of Player Development. There, he worked to develop and coordinate underclassmen recruiting efforts and organized all campus visits. Mennenga was also in charge of video breakdown of student-athlete's individual practice and game performances.

Before his time at Providence, Mennenga was an assistant basketball coach at the Nichols School in Buffalo from 2007-09. At Nichols, he helped lead the Vikings to an amazing mark of 48-6 over two seasons.

Mennenga served as an assistant coach at Iowa State University during the 2005-06 season, as the Cyclones boasted the top scoring offense in the Big XII and saw four student-athletes receive academic all-conference accolades. From 2000-05 he filled many roles at the University at Buffalo, including assistant basketball coach, recruiting coordinator and NCAA compliance staffer. During the 2004-05 campaign, the Bulls won 24 games and earned their first postseason berth with an NIT appearance. His recruiting classes from 2003-05 were each ranked first in the Mid-American Conference by Rivals.com. He began his Division I career as an assistant at Maine from 1996-2000. The Black Bears set school records in wins, attendance and all-conference selections during that time period.

Mennenga earned his associate's degree from Vincennes University in 1990 and his bachelor's degree in finance from Morehead State University in 1993, where he was a member of the basketball team. He currently lives in Buffalo with his wife, Shanetta, and their two daughters, Cheyenne and Nyla.
