The Canisius College golf team shot a team score of 298 in the final round of the Connecticut Cup Tuesday afternoon in Ellington, Conn., led by a pair of 74s by seniors Mike Spiotta and Michael Carrig. The Golden Griffins finished the 54-hole event tied for 12th place with a three-round team score of 911.
Spiotta and Carrig tied for 25th overall at the tournament, which is the final event of the fall for the Blue and Gold. Freshman Andrew Romano shot a 75 in the final round to finish in a tie for 53rd, while fellow freshman Hunter Sagar carded a 75 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 71st place overall.
Hartford won the 2012 Connecticut Cup with a team score of 882, led by the Hawks' final round tally of 291. Rhode Island took second with a 54-hole tally of 886, while Fairfield, host Connecticut and Bryant all tied for third with scores of 887.
UConn golfer Zack Zaback won the individual crown with his three-round score of 211, highlighted by his back-to-back rounds of 69, which was three under par at the Ellington Ridge Country Club.
