The Canisius College men's cross country team placed 19th overall and the women's squad took 32nd as the Golden Griffins closed out the 2012 season at the NCAA Northeast Regionals at Hammonassett State Park in Madison, Conn. The 19th place finish for the men's team marks the first time the program finished in the top-20 since 2002.

"For both teams this was our best performance of the year, it was a great way to cap off an outstanding season., said head coach Nate Huckle. "The key to our success, once again, was our consistency. Our runners stuck to the gameplan, and it payed off with very fast times. Four out of seven women set personal bests for 6k, while all seven men ran their fastest 10k ever."

Canisius sophomore Chad Malloy led the way for the Griffs as he placed 57th overall in the field with his time of 31:37.9. Freshman Cooper Roach placed 100th in the field with his time of 32:30.3, while fellow Canisius freshmen Michael Anvelt and Travis Jordan took 103rd and 121st overall. As a team, Canisius posted 514 points and improved ten spots on last year's finish at the NCAA's Regional Championship.

In the women's race, junior Mikelle Cala crossed the finish line in 22:24.6 to place 126th in the event. Sophomore Morgan Atkins placed 159th overall with her time of 23:00.4 and teammate Jamie Wallace took 181st with her time of 23:17.6.

"This was a great day for us a great way to close out the season," said Huckle. "This was a total team effort today for both teams. Mikelle [Cala] and Chad [Malloy] were great front runners once again and both teams rallied behind them."
