For the second straight season, the Canisius College synchronized swimming team secured a pair of medals in their fourth-place overall finish at the U.S. Collegiate National Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Avery Aquatics Center on the campus of the Stanford University.

Bringing home medals for the Golden Griffins were freshman Laura Schmidt capturing a gold medal in the C elements and junior Svetlana Ponkratova earning a bronze medal in the A figures.

After finishing fourth last year, host Stanford swept the team, trio, and duet finals to win its seventh national title with 97 points. Following the host Cardinal were Ohio State in second (78 points), Lindenwood in third (76), and Canisius in fourth (65).

The Golden Griffins finished fifth overall in the team routine as seniors Melissa Andrews and Victoria Mintz, juniors Morgan Lebrecht, Ponkratova and Jessica Mancini, sophomore Viktoria Mironova, and freshmen Laina Gray and Schmidt recorded a score of 87.0125. The Griffs came close to a fourth place score in the team routine with only 0.6500 separating them from Lindenwood. 

After winning a bronze medal in the A elements on Friday, Ponkratova finished fourth in the solo routine with a score of 85.8750.

The duo of Mintz and Ponkratova placed fifth overall in the duet routines, tallying a score of 85.8000.

The trio team of Mancini, Mintz, and Mironova secured a seventh-place finish (81.5500) followed closely behind in sixth (81.1625) by Gray, Lebrecht, and Schmidt.
