Canisius sophomore Robin Kennery was named All-MAAC First-Team while freshman teammate Meghan Cuda earned All-MAAC Second Team honors, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference announced Thursday night at its annual postseason awards banquet in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The All-MAAC first and second teams are voted on by the conference’s nine head coaches.

For Kennery, this is her first all-conference honor. The team’s primary second baseman, she hit a team-high .350 with 55 hits, seven doubles, a triple, three home runs and 39 RBIs to go with six stolen bases. She led Canisius with 16 multi-hit games in 2013, and her 39 runs batted in ranked third in the conference and placed her tied for 10th on Canisius’ single-season RBI list. She played in and started all 47 games this season for the Griffs at second base and led all of the team’s regular infielders with her .989 fielding percentage after recording 111 putouts and 76 assists.

Cuda earned second-team all-league honors after she closed out her rookie campaign by hitting .346 with 53 hits, 10 doubles, seven triples, a homer, 37 runs scored, 19 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. Her 0.15 triples per game average ranks fifth nationally, and her 53 hits as a freshman are the most for a Canisius newcomer since 1993. She also led the team by earning 23 walks, and her 37 runs scored ranks tied for 14th on the program’s single-season runs scored list. She played in and started all 47 games for Canisius at third base and served as the team’s leadoff hitter in 45 of 47 games.

The MAAC also announced its 2013 All-Academic Team at the awards banquet, which was held on the campus of Marist College. Senior Katie Medina, juniors Jen Consaul and Valorie Nappo and sophomore Michelle DelPrince were all honored for their work in classroom. To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must hold a 3.20 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), be at least a sophomore in academic standing and be a regular contributor to the team.

As a team, Canisius closed out the season with a 22-25 overall record and a 6-10 mark in MAAC play. The Griffs will return eight position players and three pitchers to next year’s roster.
