Todd Clark, a longtime head coach with nearly 20 years of experience, is entering his sixth season at Canisius. He was officially named the fifth head coach for the Golden Griffin women's soccer program Dec. 19, 2014.
The 2018 season saw Clark’s squad post victories over Cleveland State, Robert Morris and St. Francis (Pa.) while also recording draws against Little Three rivals Niagara and St. Bonaventure.
Individually, goalkeeper Alana Rossi established the school mark for career shutouts during her junior campaign, while in the classroom, the Griffs had a total of 15 student-athletes earn MAAC All-Academic Team accolades, tied for third most in the league.
Clark’s third season at the helm saw the Griffs edge crosstown rival Buffalo in overtime as well as post victories versus Battle of the Bridge foe Niagara and league-rival Manhattan.
In just his second season on Main Street, Clark was able to help lead the Griffs to an appearance in the 2016 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship tournament, the program's third postseason berth in a four-year span. The 2016 edition of the Blue and Gold scored eight wins, the most for the team since 2011, and the squad's 6-4-0 record in MAAC play stands as the program's first winning record in league play since 2010.
Clark took over on the Canisius sideline after a one-year stint at Barton College in Wilson, N.C. During his time with Bulldogs, Clark guided the Division II program to an 11-5-2 record, including a 6-4-1 mark in Conference Carolinas play.
Prior to his time with the Bulldogs, Clark guided Division I Campbell University for eight years from 2006 to 2013. The winningest coach in the program’s history, Clark helped lead the Fighting Camels to the 2011 Big South Tournament championship game after the team recorded a 15-5-2 mark. In his eight seasons, the Cleveland, Ohio, native recruited and developed 30 conference award winners, including six All-Big South First Team honorees from 2011-13. His teams were also very successful off the field as well, earning eight National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Team Academic Awards.
Clark began his coaching tenure as the head women’s soccer coach at Malone University in Canton, Ohio for eight years. There, he led the Pioneers of the NAIA ranks to two American Mideast Conference championships and a pair of league runner-up finishes. His squads reached the semifinals of the NAIA Region IX four times, with the 2003 unit winning the regional crown and advancing to the NAIA national tournament.
The Pioneers ranked among the NSCAA/NAIA Top-25 poll in six-straight seasons (2000-05) under Clark’s leadership and he was named the NSCAA East Regional Coach of the Year on four different occasions. Clark also helped produced 18 NSCAA All-Americans and 44 all-league award winners, while his final seven teams at Malone were presented with NSCAA Team Academic Awards for their work in the classroom.
Overall, Clark owns a 189-149-32 mark in his four stops at Malone, Campbell, Barton and Canisius. Throughout his 19 years as a head coach, Clark has served as a staff member for the Olympic Development Program, and for the past several years he has worked with the Northern Ireland (IFA) women’s national team. He holds a Premier Diploma and a Level II and III Goalkeeper Diploma from the NSCAA as well as an Irish Football Association-UEFA “A” license.
Clark earned his bachelor’s degree in education from Malone in 1994 and his master’s in education from Ashland University in 1998.
