Softball Falls to Lehigh Sunday

Amanda Greaney's grand slam in the fifth helped Lehigh secure a 9-1 mercy-rule victory over Canisius Sunday morning in collegiate softball action in the Campbell Invitational from Buies Creek, N.C.

With the loss, the Golden Griffins slip to 7-5 on the season while the Mountain Hawks improve to 10-2 on the campaign.

Junior Gianna Fazzolari plated Canisius' lone run of the game in the opening frame, a single up the middle to score sophomore Saige Alfaro.

Lily Owens responded in the home half of the first, sending a 1-1 pitch from Canisius starter Megan Giese over the center field wall - the first of nine unanswered runs for Lehigh.

The Mountain Hawks never looked back, plating two more runs on back-to-back doubles from Sydney Parlett and Maddy Schmeiser for the 3-1 advantage.

Lehigh broke the contest open in the fifth with a five-run inning. Rory Dudley singled home Owens before Greaney later stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. Greaney served the 3-2 offering from Canisius reliever Alexis Churchill to left field, capping off the momentum-shifting frame.

Josie Charles closed out the Mountain Hawks 10th victory of the season in the sixth with a bases loaded single through the right side to give Lehigh the mercy-rule walk-off.
