Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Earns Seventh Victory of the Season on Saturday

Canisius plated four runs in the third to come away with a 5-3 win over Furman Saturday morning before falling to Lehigh, 3-0, in collegiate softball action in the Campbell Invitational from Buies Creek, N.C.

Game 1 Recap
Canisius broke the game open in the third, putting up a four-spot and never looking back.

After the Paladins and Griffs traded runs in the opening frame, Furman took the brief lead in the top of the third when Hana Hashioka worked a walk with the bases loaded.

The Blue and Gold responded, as senior Sophia Recrosio led off the home half with an infield single. Following a junior Christie McGee-Ross walk, graduate Nicole Rivait slugged a two-run double down the left field line to plate Recrosio and McGee-Ross and give Canisius the 3-2 lead.

Rivait came around to score on a Furman fielding error before junior Gianna Fazzolari scored the fourth run on junior Destiny Falquez's single to left.

Furman looked to come back into the contest in the fifth, sitting with the bases loaded and two outs in the inning. The Paladins cut the Griffs' lead to two following a hit by pitch before graduate Alexis Churchill came in and escaped further damage by getting Chloe Fabio to pop out to Rivait.

Sophomore Kate Wiggins started in the circle for the Griffs, pitching 3.0 innings in the no-decision.

Freshman hurler Rylee Alfaro earned her first collegiate save, tossing 1.2 innings of relief before handing the ball off to Churchill, who did not allow a hit over the final 2.1 frames in her third save of the season.

Game 2 Recap
Lehigh's Katelyn Young kept the Griffs' bats silent throughout the game, holding Canisius to just two hits and one walk.

Emily Cimino gave the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a single up the middle.

Lehigh would tack on its second run of the contest thanks to an Amanda Greaney sac fly in the third.

Cimino drove in her second run of the day with a single to the right-center gap, giving the Mountain Hawks a 3-0 advantage.

Sophomore Toria Kover earned her second start in as many days, tossing 2.1 innings in the setback before junior Megan Giese pitched the remaining 4.2 frames of the contest.

Game Notes
• With the save against Furman, Churchill has nine career saves, one behind Genevieve Garcia(1999-2002) and Andrea Bunten (2002-05) for the second-most in program history.

• Sophomore Saige Alfaro extended her hitting streak to seven straight games with hits in both contests today.
